A Letter to the Men in My Life During These Unprecedented Times
I’ve never blamed you. In fact, I thank you.
Dear Dad (Uncle, Brother, Cousin, Nephew, Husband, Boyfriend, etc…),
As you have seen, June 24th marked a sad day for women and reproductive individuals in American history. Roe v. Wade, a law that protected all forms of women and reproductive care under the constitution, was overturned by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court gave the states the freedom to do as they choose when it comes to reproductive health care.
This decision created a feeling I have never felt before — a mixture of things that I’m still learning to process and deal with: hurt, anger, confusion, and disbelief. But on top of all of that, I have never felt more afraid for myself and other individuals than I did yesterday.
I know that you never thought a day like this would come; you never believed that the rights for the women in your life would have been stripped away by men in power. And never would I think that we would go back 50 years and be in the predicament that we are.
I want you to know that I never blamed you. I never felt as if you were not looking out for my best interests.
You are not the bad guy. You never were.
