Roe Vs. Wade Overturned…There Is No Separation of Church and State

How is the Supreme Court ruling anywhere close to the premise of the Constitution’s Bill of Rights?

Today, I sit saddened by the ruling of the Supreme Court. I’m disgusted. I’m hurt. I’m angry. Not only for reproductive women and individuals, but for our country as a whole.

If you don’t have social media or have been made unaware, the Supreme Court overruled Roe vs. Wade this morning around 10am EST. This law allowed women the right to terminate a pregnancy and was protected under the US Constitution. And not only is it now the freedom of state to choose, but there is question as to whether or not rape and incest are included in the ban.

Regardless of your stance on abortion, this is 100% a collaboration of church and state which goes against the first clause in the Bill of Rights :law should not be established on the premise of religion. Yet, they seem to have slowly entangled themselves with one another.

Mike Pence, former US Vice President, upon news of the Supreme Court decision, declared all states to ban abortion in this “second chance for life.” Pence has always been and always will be open about his very strong Christian beliefs, as have many other lawmakers. And while I can commend his commitment to his faith, religion has no place in politics.

Laws are made to keep citizens safe and control behavior. Laws are put in place to protect our human rights. So, how does this decision make any sense?

What we see today is not only a smack in the face of our forefathers, but a digression of human rights.

Regardless of your personal beliefs, you do not have the right to dictate another human being. You do not have the right to make choices for others. Unless their choices are physically or mentally harming you, you do not have the right to force them to change. This is the moral our country was founded upon, yet here we stand — disregarding everything we’ve lived and learned, and once again demonstrating how history repeats itself.
